Lives Saved: April to June
#Team45 Has Saved Over 1,100 Lives!

Thanks to you, we've surpassed our goal for #Team45! We challenged you and your fellow hunger fighters to raise enough money to save 1,000 children from deadly hunger by June 30th. You didn’t just step up to the challenge—you raised the bar even higher!
Since January, you and your fellow #Team45 members have raised $50,026.00 to benefit Action Against Hunger's lifesaving nutrition programs. Thank you for your support!
So, how does that translate to lives saved? The money you raised so far has helped us reach 1,111 children around the world!

An End to Hunger is Closer Than You Think

Hunger claims one million young lives every year, but for the first time in history, game changing solutions are within our reach. Using ready-to-use therapeutic foods, we can now treat children at home, and save lives at a scale never before imagined.
Thanks to ready-to-use therapeutic foods, we know how to fight deadly hunger. Thanks to your support, we’re one step closer to winning the fight.

#Team45 Success Stories

Your generosity has helped 1,111 children receive lifesaving nutrition over the past three months — children like Shehzore and Farhana, a brother and sister in Pakistan; Musa, a two-year-old boy in Nigeria; Baru, a little girl in rural Niger; and Bintu Niare, a two-year-old girl in Mali. Learn more about their struggle with deadly hunger, and how your support helped transform their lives.

Supporting Shehzore and Farhana's Family

Farzana, a mother in Dadu District, Pakistan, works hard to provide for her children: she tends to her family’s farm, raises livestock, and takes care of household chores. Unfortunately, she sometimes still struggles to make ends meet. When she needed help for her malnourished daughter, Farhana, she turned to her local Action Against Hunger-supported health center.

Shehzore and Farhana get treatment with ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTFs) at their local health center. RUTFs are specially formulated to help children recover from deadly malnutrition.
Farzana had been to the center before with her son Shehzore. Now both children are being treated with ready-to-use therapeutic foods and are on the road to recovery. Farzana is also learning proper infant care techniques, so she can keep her children healthy after they leave the health center.

Giving Musa's Mother Peace of Mind

When Action Against Hunger volunteers came to Dumbol, Nigeria, Umbodu Kawo came to us for help for her malnourished two-year-old son, Musa. We treated Musa with ready-to-use therapeutic foods at a health center outside of Dumbol, and he’s now back to full health.

Musa's mother says that not only does her son enjoy the ready-to-use therapeutic food he receives, but it has helped him gain weight and regain his health.
While Musa received treatment, Umbodu learned how to better care for him through childcare and nutrition lessons given at the health center. Umbodu says she can now sleep better at night knowing that her son is healthy.

Bringing Baru Back to Health

Baru had been sick for two weeks when her grandmother, Alima, brought her to a health center near their village outside Mayahi in rural Niger. There, she was diagnosed with malnutrition and malaria. Afraid for Baru’s life, Alima traveled twenty miles to bring her to Mayahi District Hospital.

Before therapeutic foods, some children who need specialized care are fed therapeutic milk formula. Baru received therapeutic milk in the nutrition ward at her community hospital.
After just six days of treatment, Baru’s health improved. She even sat up and began to feed herself ready-to-use therapeutic foods. We’re working with the Ministry of Health to support Mayahi District Hospital’s nutrition programs so we can treat more children like Baru.

Saving Bintu Niare's Life

In Mali, widespread poverty, food insecurity, and instability caused by conflict has led to alarming rates of childhood malnutrition. In fact, malnutrition is the second leading cause of death among children under five years old in Mali.

An Action Against Hunger staff member sits with Bintu Niare and her mother in the health center in Bamako, Mali.
Bintu Niare, a little girl in Bamako, is one of thousands of children in Mali struggling with malnutrition. At two years old, she weighed only 11 pounds when her mother brought her to an Action Against Hunger-supported health center. She is now recovering thanks to treatment with ready-to-use therapeutic foods.

Your Support Goes Further

As fundraisers, you're committed to ending deadly hunger. So are we. That's why we make sure the money you raise goes where it's needed most. In 2012, we spent $0.91 of every donated dollar on our lifesaving programs:

So you can feel good that you're not only supporting a vital cause, but a great organization as well!
But don't just take our word for it: a number of independent watchdogs offer annual assessments of our agency’s fiscal and organizational health.

We've earned four stars from Charity Navigator for our financial transparency and efficiency for seven consecutive years. Only 2% of non-profits earn this distinction.
