Your Support Saves Lives
Action Against Hunger Quarterly Progress Report
Making a Difference Together
At Action Against Hunger, we’re on a mission: to end deadly hunger for good.
As a recognized leader in the fight against childhood malnutrition, we have the tools, the expertise, and the holistic approach needed to eradicate hunger. And, most importantly, we have you.
Your generosity allows us to reach some nine million people in need. You're with us on on the ground in more than 45 countries, helping us save lives, empower vulnerable communities, respond to crises, and create a healthier future for children around the world.
You've shown us your commitment to fighting hunger. Now, we want to show you how your support is making a difference.
Supporting Shehzore and Farhana's Family
Farzana, a mother in Dadu District, Pakistan, works hard to provide for her children, but sometimes still struggles to make ends meet. When her two youngest children, Shehzore and Farhana, became malnourished, she turned to her local Action Against Hunger-supported health center for help.
Now both children are getting treatment with ready-to-use therapeutic foods that are specially formulated to help children recover from malnutrition. While her children receive treatment, Farzana is learning good infant care techniques, so she can keep her children healthy after they leave the health center.
Your support provided essential nutrition and health support for more than 180,200 people across Pakistan last year—including more than 12,000 malnourished children just like Shezhore and Farhana.

Promoting Community Ownership of Water Sources
In Tana River County, Kenya, fetching water used to be a harrowing task. Villagers had to walk for hours to pay half their wages for water, or risk their lives gathering water from a crocodile-infested river. The methods weren’t safe, and neither was the water itself: children who drank it often contracted waterborne diseases.
But now, things are different. Our water, sanitation and hygiene teams built pipelines and wells to improve access to clean water. To ensure these solutions are sustainable, we engaged community members to manage the wells themselves through local water committees.
Your support has helped more than 70,500 people across Kenya access safe water and sanitation last year, and is helping 18,800 people in Tana River County create and maintain safe, sustainable water sources.

Helping Families Get Back on Their Feet
After Typhoon Haiyan devastated the Philippines, millions of people lost their livelihoods—including Roselyn Omeres, a 19-year-old Tacloban resident who is the sole breadwinner for her family. Roselyn used to make a meager living selling bamboo for firewood. But after the typhoon, she was left with no supplies and no money.
We’re providing Roselyn with a monthly cash grant to help her family get back on its feet. These grants aren’t handouts. They aim to economically empower vulnerable families. With her grant, Roselyn plans to open a general store.
Your support is empowering 200,000 typhoon-affected people across the Philippines to rebuild their lives in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan—including some 10,000 families like Roselyn’s that are receiving unconditional cash grants.

Responding to Crisis in South Sudan
Just three years after claiming independence, South Sudan now faces a mounting crisis. Since conflict erupted in December 2013, 1.5 million South Sudanese people have fled their homes in search of safety—nearly 400,000 of those fleeing as refugees to neighboring countries.
Our teams are on the ground now, scaling up emergency support to prevent outbreaks of cholera and malnutrition. With over 20 years of experience working in the region, we are providing lifesaving assistance to conflict-affected families.
Throughout South Sudan, our nutrition teams have already reached nearly 14,000 children. Your ongoing support will help us continue to deliver critical emergency services to those in need.
